CEYNEW is the 30th of the 150 Jouët 1040s built under the name of Jouët et Compagnie, the Sartrouville yard on the River Seine where Jean Pierre Jouët designed and built the 23ft Golif, launched at the Paris boat show in January 1962 as the world's first production small offshore cruiser entirely built in GRP. By 1983 the company, founded in 1920, was part of the Yachting France combine. The French journal Mers et Bateaux describes the 1040 as "très un excellent fiftyé [fifty-fifty motor sailer].
Due to an unexpectedly cancelled refit at Liverpool CEYNEW is now offered for sale on the hard at Douglas Marine in Lancashire, a full working boatyard with crane on the navigable River Astland with pontoon moorings just two miles from the River Ribble and the Irish Sea.
